I’ve been thinking more thoughts at R, trying once again to explain what my life is like. From the perspective that Kayla understood, that what I’m up against is a physiological process, not psychological or emotional, though it does have emotional consequences. I’m not a person who sits around feeling sorry for myself. I’m more like a person living with a debilitating chronic illness, and trying to live with it with as much grace and dignity as possible. I’ve done a lot of talk therapy, and other therapies, and personal growth workshops, and they’ve all given me skills to manage my life better. But the only things that have actually had a real impact have been ones that work directly on the body: medication, Somatic Experiencing, and thyroid supplements.
