Recently I’ve been going through a bad time. \u00a0Waking up in the morning feeling disconnected from everything and everybody. \u00a0Finally I remembered that when Trump was elected, I dealt with my despair by reciting “Peace, Love, Justice…<\/a>” even though the words were empty and didn’t mean anything. \u00a0It was all I had to hold on to. \u00a0So I said to myself “I choose to trust that I matter, just the way I am, that we are all in this together, and that we are headed in a good direction.” \u00a0I expected the words to feel empty, and was surprised to find myself feeling grounded and solid. \u00a0Having a place to stand. \u00a0Not quite feeling “good” but so much better than emptiness and despair.<\/p>\n

As I continue to say it, I remember that I first got these ideas from Rob Bell. \u00a0In November 2013 I posted about my first reading of What We Talk About When We Talk About God<\/a>. Bell’s actual words are: \u201cChoosing to trust that this life matters and we\u2019re all connected and this is all headed somewhere has made my life way, way better.\u201d \u00a0 p125 \u00a0I am amazed at how solidly these ideas are holding me right now.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
