{"id":6134,"date":"2019-06-02T12:08:37","date_gmt":"2019-06-02T16:08:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jennydeupree.com\/?p=6134"},"modified":"2019-06-02T16:31:40","modified_gmt":"2019-06-02T20:31:40","slug":"not-up-to-the-magnitude-of-the-pain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jennydeupree.com\/?p=6134","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Not up to the Magnitude of the Pain&#8230;&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Let go of any bitterness that may have come<br \/>\nbecause you were not up to the magnitude of the pain<br \/>\nthat was entrusted to you.<br \/>\nLike the Mother of the world,<br \/>\nwho carries the pain of the world in her heart,<br \/>\neach one of us is part of her heart,<br \/>\nand therefore endowed<br \/>\nwith a certain measure of cosmic pain.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\"><br \/>\n<\/span>You are sharing in the totality of that pain.<br \/>\nYou are called upon to meet it in compassion<br \/>\ninstead of self-pity.<br \/>\n\u2014 Pir Vilayat Khan<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>These words were very helpful to me. \u00a0Especially the part about &#8220;not up to the magnitude of the pain,&#8221; because I certainly never felt that I was &#8220;up to&#8221; the intensity and degree of pain that I&#8217;ve suffered because of PTSD, severe depression, abandonment, the airplane phobia, etc. \u00a0I don&#8217;t think I spent a lot of time in self-pity, but I was angry at myself that I &#8220;couldn&#8217;t get out of a bad mood.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Recently, as I&#8217;ve become aware of the pain of my tender heart, I realize that the pain is for all those suffering from the toxic effects of modern Western Civilization. \u00a0This is an insight that I keep coming to and then losing, that my pain is not about me at all. \u00a0Recently I really got that \u201cShamans know that those wounds are not their own but the world\u2019s.\u201d (Matthew Fox) \u00a0 It&#8217;s so clear at this point that my pain is not about me. \u00a0Getting this really allows me to bear it in compassion.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Let go of any bitterness that may have come because you were not up to the magnitude of the pain that was entrusted to you.
