Hatred will not cease by hatred,
\nBut only by love.

I woke up this morning with a burning heart, and sat with grief and fear while trying to write.\u00a0 \u201cMocha next to me.\u00a0 I feel my love for her.\u00a0 That\u2019s all there is.\u201d\u00a0 I have tried to make lists of gratitudes.\u00a0 I think it\u2019s a valuable practice, but although I know<\/span> I am thankful for things \u2014 my dog, my car, a roof over my head \u2014 I don\u2019t actually feel<\/span> grateful.\u00a0 Which always makes me worry that I\u2019m not really grateful.\u00a0 So I started to write about all the things I love, and fear are being slowly or quickly destroyed.\u00a0 Something totally unexpected happened.\u00a0 My heart opened and I felt a lot of love, for the underdogs, the outcasts, the marginalized and vulnerable.\u00a0 I realize that my heart opens whenever people are in trouble.\u00a0 I\u2019m so glad to have this, it\u2019s all I have.\u00a0 I wrote:<\/p>\n

I love the Dakota people and their supporters at Standing Rock<\/p>\n

I love the people in the LGBTQ community<\/p>\n

I love the rivers that will be poisoned by fracking, and the rivers that are still clean.<\/p>\n

I love the trees that clean the air for us, and that are targeted for exploitation.<\/p>\n

I love the people of Flint, Michigan, who are still having to drink poisoned water, or pay for clean water.<\/p>\n

I love the immigrants, the Muslims, the disabled who have been targeted by our fascist government-elect.<\/p>\n

I love the underdogs who are struggling with a burden too great to be borne.\u00a0 I even love the underdogs who wanted change so badly they voted for Trump, and had no idea what he had planned to do.<\/p>\n

I love Mocha, and I love the trees around my house, and I love the birds that I see.<\/p>\n

That helps a lot.\u00a0 It seems that it\u2019s easier for my heart to open for things that are in trouble.\u00a0 That\u2019s always been true, hasn\u2019t it?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
