I forgot to mention that the title to a recent post: \u00a0“I surrender, my life is unmanageable<\/a>,” is AA’s first step. \u00a0It’s necessary to give up and let go before you are ready to let God into your life. \u00a0It’s a place I’ve come to many times. \u00a0Today what’s hard is that I’ve started a new medication, at the urging of friends, who are worried because my depressions have been so bad. \u00a0I don’t know whether it’s the medication or my fears about the medication, but I’m feeling like there is no presence of Spirit in the world.<\/p>\n

I wanted to share this quote from Father Greg Boyle<\/a>, who works with gang members in the toughest slum in Los Angeles.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0“But the truth is, you know, we’re so used to a God, a one-false-move God, and so we’re not really accustomed to the no-matter-whatness of God, to the God who’s just plain old too busy loving us to be disappointed in us.”<\/p>\n

I also wanted to share this poem that was sent to me by my friend Elizabeth. \u00a0It addresses how I’m feeling and strengthens me.<\/p>\n

A Prayer<\/p>\n

Refuse to fall down.
\nIf you cannot refuse to fall down,
\nrefuse to stay down.
\nIf you cannot refuse to stay down,
\nlift your heart toward heaven,
\nand like a hungry beggar,
\nask that it be filled,
\nand it will be filled.
\nYou may be pushed down.
\nYou may be kept from rising.
\nBut no one can keep you
\nfrom lifting your heart
\ntoward heaven –
\nonly you.
\nIt is in the middle of misery
\nthat so much becomes clear.
\nThe one who says nothing good
\ncame of this,
\nis not yet listening.<\/p>\n
