Yesterday was a day of grace. \u00a0The night before I saw that my car battery (the hybrid battery that gets me 45mpg) was way down and I was afraid something wasn’t working properly. \u00a0I called my car guys, and said if I didn’t make it I’d call AAA and have it towed. I thought I should pray before I left with the car, but when I asked myself what to pray for, it didn\u2019t matter!\u00a0 If it\u2019s time to get a new car I\u2019ll do that, if I have to rent a car I\u2019ll do that, if it\u2019s OK I\u2019ll go on.\u00a0 So I said \u201cThy will be done.\u201d\u00a0 What an astonishing sense of freedom!\u00a0 Then the car turned out to be fine.<\/p>\n
One thing that contributed to the goodness of the day was the \u201cDaily Good\u201d which was a transcript of Krista Tippet interviewing Father Greg<\/a> who works in the worst slum in L.A. with the teenagers from gangs.\u00a0 His image of god is that god is immense<\/strong>, and god\u2019s love is also immense<\/strong>.\u00a0 As I drove downtown I could feel the presence of that HUGE god and HUGE love coming at me from all directions.\u00a0 It was wonderful!\u00a0 I realized that his words had connected the vast self-creating Universe with the god who welcomed me<\/a> to Heaven.\u00a0 O joy!\u00a0 Thank you!<\/p>\n I accept that I\u2019m not \u201call better now,\u201d that my days are not now going to be wonderful.\u00a0 I\u2019ll probably continue to have days of scared & sad, and maybe even that hopelessness.\u00a0 When I am alone, and start to feel hopeless I hope the one to whom the car didn\u2019t matter will be able to be there for me.<\/p>\n I realize that part of this must be the lovingkindness prayer I started only a couple of days ago.\u00a0 I was describing the feeling of a day of grace.\u00a0 I\u2019m still having trouble remembering the words, but it happened anyway!\u00a0 Thank you!<\/p>\n Gratitude for a day of grace, gratitude for Richard Rohr<\/a>, and Father Greg.\u00a0 Gratitude for Eve and Karen and Barbara and Lynelle and Beverly and Caryn.\u00a0 Gratitude for rocks and trees and birds.\u00a0 Gratitude for spring that\u2019s finally greening the grass and the flowering maples that are like wonderful clouds of red.\u00a0 Gratitude for the peepers, for my friendly local church, for Barry and Amy, for Victoria and the choir, gratitude for the computer and email, grateful for the blog.
