\nWe watched Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood.\u00a0 I hadn\u2019t realized that Ellen Burstyn was Vivi \u2014 current Vivi \u2014 she did a great job.\u00a0 There was also child Vivi and young mother Vivi.\u00a0 Made it a little hard to keep track.\u00a0 I enjoyed it, but was also stunned by it.\u00a0 Vivi was so alive \u2014 but she should never have had to care for 4 kids by herself.\u00a0 And she was never really allowed to mourn the loss of her childhood love.\u00a0 There was also the horrible scene with her own mother and the ring at her 16th birthday.\u00a0 And little Sidda, doing her best to help, and believing it was her fault when her Mama had a nervous breakdown and had to go away.\u00a0 That was never talked about.\u00a0 It was a great scene when one of the Ya-Yas tells her father to write a check to Sidda for all the years of therapy when she tried to figure out what she did wrong.<\/p>\n
But I found Vivi lovable and forgivable.\u00a0 In contrast my own mother looks dead, selfish, stingy, concerned with her image.\u00a0 The scene where Vivi takes Sidda back for the ride on the plane that she\u2019d funked the first time: Mother would have just made me wrong.\u00a0 Mother wasn\u2019t like Vivi, she was like Vivi\u2019s mother, stunted.\u00a0 Stunted because she wasn\u2019t properly nourished, because she was confined by a cage of oppressive ideals.\u00a0 I\u2019d like to find my way to forgiveness of Mom, but at the moment I\u2019m just angry at her for being narrow and damaged, and not fighting it.\u00a0 I fought all my life and finally won.\u00a0 Mother just drank.\u00a0 And made nasty remarks about anyone who expressed the aliveness she had repressed in herself and was jealous of.\u00a0 I am ashamed of her.<\/p>\n
[This was written in 2008.\u00a0 I say I’ve “finally won” but I had at least one more bout with disabling PTSD.\u00a0 In some ways the worst.\u00a0 I wouldn’t say “I’ve won” now.\u00a0 My life is a continual struggle to stay balanced.]<\/p>\n
