The Great Turning<\/em>: from Empire to Earth Community<\/a>, by David Korten\u00a0\u00a0 “The Great Turning”\u00a0 is Joanna Macy’s phrase for the huge transformation of consciousness that humanity is going through. He does a good job of tracing the roots of this transformation and that Earth Community \u2014 “a life-centered, egalitarian, sustainable way of organizing based on democratic principles of partnership” \u2014 is indeed possible.<\/p>\n

Gaviotas<\/em>: a village to reinvent the world<\/a>, by Alan Weisman.\u00a0\u00a0 Gaviotas is a small community in Colombia.\u00a0 The first time I read this book, I experienced an enormous surge of hope.\u00a0 This is the way human beings were supposed to live, not the competitive, brutal, exploitive society that we are used to.<\/p>\n

Rebalancing the World<\/em>: Why Women Belong and Men Compete and How to Restore the Ancient Equilibrium<\/a> by Carol Flinders.\u00a0 This is a feminist version of the Great Turning.\u00a0 Carol Flinders has written other wonderful books.\u00a0 I also highly recommend: At the Root of this Longing: reconciling a spiritual hunger and a feminist thirst, and Enduring Lives.<\/p>\n

Blessed Unrest<\/em>: how the largest movement in the world came into being, and why no one saw it coming<\/a>, by Paul Hawken. Another one to read when you’re feeling discouraged with the human adventure.\u00a0 See also Paul Hawken on YouTube.<\/p>\n

Invisible Heroes<\/em>: Survivors of Trauma and How They Heal<\/a>, by Belleruth Naparstek.\u00a0 This book has been enormously validating of my experiences with working to heal trauma.<\/p>\n

Getting Through the Day<\/em>: strategies for adults hurt as children<\/a>, by Nancy Napier.\u00a0 Another book that I’ve found very useful.\u00a0 If I’m having a hard time, I just open it and read whatever’s there.\u00a0 I also have tapes by Nancy Napier.<\/p>\n

Aphrodite’s Daughters<\/em>: Women’s Sexual Stories and the Journey of the Soul<\/a>, by Jalaja Bonheim.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
